Beyond DNS Blocking: Why ShowTech is Adding CyberSight to ShowTech One

Beyond DNS Blocking: What DNSFilter CyberSight Brings to Modern Cybersecurity

Starting in April of 2026, ShowTech is rolling out a new addon to our DNS Filtering solution. It’s called CyberSight. This will be rolled out to our managed services customers as an enhancement to our existing security stack. This addition builds on the DNS protection many of our clients already rely on by adding greater visibility and context into how devices and users interact with the web. CyberSight strengthens our layered security approach by helping us not only block known threats, but also better understand activity surrounding security events allowing for faster investigations, clearer answers, and more confident response when something doesn’t look right.

The only thing your team may notice is a new extension in their browser called Cybersight. Aside from the browser extension, there are no other applications to install as it uses what is already on your machine.

When most people think about DNS security, they think about blocking bad websites. And that’s important, but it’s no longer enough.

At ShowTech, we’re often asked questions like:

  • How did this security event start?
  • Did someone click a link—or did this happen automatically?
  • What was the user doing right before the incident?

Those are the questions DNS filtering alone can’t always answer. That’s where DNSFilter CyberSight comes in.

The Limits of Traditional DNS Filtering

DNS filtering is very good at one thing: stopping known bad domains from being accessed. It answers a simple but critical question: Was a request allowed or blocked?

What it doesn’t show is context. If a suspicious domain shows up in a log, DNS alone can’t tell you:

  • What triggered the request
  • Whether the activity was user‑initiated or automated
  • What happened before or after the event
  • Whether the behavior points to user error, shadow IT, or a compromised device

In today’s threat landscape, that missing context matters.

What really is CyberSight?

CyberSight is DNSFilter’s user behavior analytics layer. Instead of only showing what was blocked, CyberSight provides visibility into what users and devices are actually doing on the web.

CyberSight collects time‑stamped activity and presents it in a clear, readable timeline that aligns with DNS events and security alerts. This turns raw logs into something far more useful: understanding.

What CyberSight Adds That DNS Alone Can’t

CyberSight gives visibility into meaningful user activity, including:

  • Full web URLs (not just domains)
  • User actions like clicking a link or typing a site directly
  • Application usage related to web activity
  • The sequence of events leading up to a security alert

Instead of guessing how a security event occurred, CyberSight helps answer the “why” behind it.

Why This Matters

When a security incident occurs, time and clarity matter more than raw data. Most organizations don’t lose because they lacked tools—they lose because they lacked context.

CyberSight gives ShowTech the context needed to understand what actually happened, why it happened, and how serious it is—without guessing.

Faster, More Confident Incident Response

When an alert triggers, CyberSight lets us quickly see what a user was doing before, during, and after the event. Instead of piecing together logs from multiple systems, we get a clear activity timeline. That means faster investigations, fewer blind spots, and quicker decisions.

Clear Insight Into What Triggered a DNS Block

Not every blocked request tells a full story on its own. Was the DNS block caused by:

  • A user clicking a malicious email link?
  • A downloaded file calling out to the internet?
  • An application quietly making background connections?

CyberSight connects the DNS event to real user and device activity, helping us understand cause—not just outcome.

Identifying Risk Before It Becomes an Incident

Some of the most dangerous behavior never triggers an immediate block. CyberSight helps surface:

  • Shadow IT and unapproved applications
  • Unusual application usage
  • Browsing or activity patterns that don’t match normal behavior

These signals often appear before an incident escalates. Early visibility allows earlier intervention.

Better Compliance and Acceptable‑Use Reviews

When usage concerns arise, CyberSight provides factual timelines instead of assumptions. This makes compliance reviews, policy discussions, and internal investigations clear, objective, and defensible.

Less Noise, More Signal

Security tools are only useful if humans can interpret them. CyberSight is designed to separate meaningful user activity from background system noise—so investigations become clearer, not more overwhelming.

Layered Security, Done Right

CyberSight doesn’t replace DNS filtering—it strengthens it.

  • DNS filtering automatically blocks known threats
  • CyberSight provides the context needed when something unusual or unexpected occurs

Together, they move security from reactive cleanup to proactive understanding—helping us protect customers earlier, respond faster, and reduce real risk.

Why ShowTech Uses CyberSight

At ShowTech, our goal is not just to block threats but to help our clients understand their environment, reduce risk, and respond confidently when something doesn’t look right.

CyberSight aligns with that approach by:

  • Improving visibility without adding user friction
  • Making security investigations clearer and faster
  • Supporting smarter decisions during real‑world incidents

In a world where “what happened?” is just as important as “was it blocked?”, CyberSight fills a critical gap.

As cyber threats continue to evolve, visibility and context are just as important as prevention. DNSFilter CyberSight enhances the protections already in place by helping us understand not only what was blocked, but why an event occurred and what happened around it. This added insight allows ShowTech to respond faster, reduce uncertainty during incidents, and continue strengthening the layered security our customers rely on every day.

As we roll CyberSight out beginning in April 2026, we see it as another step in our commitment to proactive, security‑first IT—giving our team better tools to protect your business without adding friction for users.
